Hyundai Recalls 443K Sonatas, Hybrids Over Defective Seat Belts

Oct. 23, 2017—Hyundai announced it's recalling 443,500 model year 2011-2014 Sonata and 2011-2015 Sonata Hybrid sedans that have already been recalled before for the same seat belt problems, according to a CarComplaints.com report. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation in January 2017 to determine why seat belts failed in a Sonata crash. The front seat belt assembly in the Hyundai Sonata uses a seat belt anchor pretensioner fastened to the car's inner structure. The anchor pretensioner is fastened to the inner sill before it's connected to the seat belt linkage. However, the seat belt can detach from the anchor pretensioner if the connector does not fully latch when the linkage is pressed onto the connector. The 2011-2014 Sonata and 2011-2015 Sonata Hybrid recall will begin October 2017 when sh ... read more

Toyota Recalls 310K Sienna Vans

Oct. 18, 2017—Toyota announced a safety recall of 310,000 model year 2005–2007, 2009 and 2010 Sienna vans in the U.S.  The automaker notes that the vehicles involved have grease inside the shift lever assembly that could transfer to other internal components, causing them to function improperly. This could allow the shift lever to be moved out of the “Park” position without depressing the brake pedal. If this occurs when the parking brake is not engaged, it could lead to a vehicle rollaway and increase the risk of a crash. Shops should replace the shift lock solenoid with a new one, remove the grease, and reapply an appropriate amount of grease. All known owners of the involved vehicles will be notified by first class mail by mid-December. Posted by Allen L Phillips

CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES THREATEN AUTO REPAIR SHOPS

By Allen L Phillips California's wildfires are affecting members of the Automotive Service Councils of California (ASCCA), an association of repair shop owners, of which Del Mar Automotive is a member.  The information we have so far only affects shops in the Santa Rosa fire area.  One shop owner has lost his home - no one was home at the time so they only have the clothes on their backs - but their shop is open.  Several more are threatened. ASCCA has set up a go fund me site to collect contributions to help our people get back on their feet.  It is a general fund that will apply to any other fires in California as well.  Your help is appreciated.  The link is below.  You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser. https://www.gofundme.com/ascca-ca-wild-fire-relief-fund
